  • University Career Services (UCS) at the University of Houston has volunteered the use of its online job placement services to Hurricane Katrina refugees who have relocated to Houston. If you are interested in hiring one or more relocated job candidates, the procedure is easy: just visit the UCS website (www.career.uh.edu) and post your job(s). Click on the special "Katrina Storm Victims: Post a Job; Search for a Job" link from the home page and follow the prompts. You may indicate how you want interested candidates to reply (e-mail, fax, phone, in-person, etc.). This database has been set up expressly for Katrina refugees and it is separate from the regular JOBank and JobScan services. It is free to all users.

Disaster Recovery:

  • Members of IFMA in the Phoenix area have professional resources available in fire sprinkler, alarm and pumps. We could offer organizational support and assistance with recovery planning on inspections and certifications of fire systems at facilities that need to be brought into service quickly.
  • I am and IFMA member and I have experience in real estate, construction or project management. I am certainly available by phone and would take a week of company leave time to support recovery/reconstruction efforts.

Temporary Housing:

  • Michigan-area member is willing to "Adopt a Family / Share Our Residence", w/ Katrina Survivors. While the husband (or wife) is busy recovering from the FM aspects of Katrina, the spouse and children are more than welcome to call our residence in Michigan home, until they get back on their feet. We have plenty of room, great schools, and a caring attitude. If any of our IFMA members and families could use this type of assistance, please do not hesitate to notify Michael Edgar, CFM.
  • Boston-area member can house a single person looking to relocate to Boston due to Hurricane Katrina. Free airline miles may be offered as well. Inquires regarding this availability should be directed to costa@ifma.org.

  • A facilities manager for ABB Lummus Global in the Westchase District and a recent new member of IFMA has indicated that her company has downsized from 450,000 sq. ft. of space to about 250,000 sq. ft. and as a result, has an excess of office furniture and office supplies, some of which we could donate to offices being setup around Houston for Katerina victims. They have desks (metal), tables, chairs (mostly desk chairs, some guest
    chairs) and file cabinets. These items are not top of the line, but they are furniture items used recently in our Engineering office. There are certainly serviceable and might help some companies get up and running with a minimum of fuss and expense. In addition they have an excess of binders, desk organizers, staplers, 3 hole punches and pendaflex folders.

  • IFMA member company is offering hurricane releif to those that need furnishings.We are providing space planning and Teknion is offering sytems furniture, seating, filing, casegoods, etc. discounted with special delivery and payment terms to help relieve the burdens of all affected by Katrina.
  • A northern Ohio IFMA member has used office furniture such as chairs, desks or even workstations that could be donated to the relief fund for Katrina. The only issue would be transporting these items -- someone would need to arrange for delivery.

  • I have asked a client, Regions Financial Corp. / Union Planters Bank if they have any space available for immediate use. Attached is a list of property for sale in the affected areas. It is mostly closed branch bank buildings 600 to 3000 square feet. It may be of help to someone trying to set up a remote base of operations in Baton Rouge.   • An IFMA member has property in Research Triangle Park, NC that may be of interest to companies wishing to relocate. The facility is about 400,000 SF – sub-dividable. It is mostly wet labs with office and datacenter and is essentially in need of upfit throughout.
  • Warehouse office space is available in the Research Triangle Park area of North Carolina (between Raleigh and Durham). An IFMA Member is knowledgeable on availabilities and can put interested parties in contact with NC property managers. The warehouses are fully-functioning, open space, HVAC, multiple-dock and multiple-height locations. All it needs is furniture, which he can assist with as well.
